Autumn 2012 newsletter
Welcome to my latest newsletter, providing updates on some of my ministry activities over the past few weeks. I hope you enjoy reading about the people and places I have encountered during the course of this new journey God has placed me on.
A Prison Visit
I was invited to Lewes Prison in East Sussex, which holds men who are either convicted or on remand, and met 40 prisoners with Chaplain Jim Woodgate. After listening intently to my testimony, and asking a number of searching questions, every single member of the group turned to the Lord that afternoon, which was the most amazing blessing.
Thrill Factor at Detling Celebration
On my first visit to the Detling Celebration in Kent I was excited to be a guest of their evening ‘Thrill Factor’ in which I was interviewed by Steve Legg, as well as enjoying hearing main speaker Patrick Regan, from the XLP charity, and the accompanying music and comedy entertainment.
Ben and Friends
It was great to spend an evening and give my testimony at Kensington Temple’s Performing Arts School during their recent evening with ‘Ben and Friends’ featuring Ben Ofoedu, the former lead singer of one of my favourite dance music duos Phats and Small.
Mental Well-being in Sport
I was recently one of a number of speakers at the Sports Chaplaincy UK’s Annual Conference in Northampton, joining old friends like Charlton manager Chris Powell and Vincent Pericard, a former colleague at Portsmouth FC. The theme was ‘Mental Well-Being in Sport’, currently a very topical subject in sport.
First ever Jamaican New Testament
I was privileged to be asked to the official launch of the first ever Jamaican New Testament at the Jamaican High Commission in London, and was particularly impressed that the publication of this official translation into Jamaican Patois was the culmination of a 20-year academic project initiated by the Bible Society.
It’s Alpha season
It has been my pleasure to launch a number of both adult and youth Alpha courses at different churches and schools, including New Generation Church at Sidcup, King’s Community Church at Hedge End, St Andrews Church at Dibden Purlieu, and St John’s College in Portsmouth. I have also filmed a clip for the ‘Sports Alpha’ initiative, which is providing video interviews with successful sportsmen and women sharing different aspects of their faith to be used as a an Alpha resource nationwide.
Finally
My fitness has been tested to the limit recently, with a Pedal for Primus Cycle Challenge – over three days and 175 miles – and the Great South Run – over ten miles; both earned sponsorship monies for ‘Faith and Football’.
My ministry will take me round the country again in the coming weeks including Hemel Hampstead, Shepperton, Thundersley, and Guernsey. Perhaps I will met some of you along the way?
I would love to hear from any of you, anytime, so please feel free to contact me via the website – linvoyprimus.com or email me directly at info@linvoyprimus.com.
God bless,
Linvoy
